Three cops from Raigad hurt while defusing explosives | Navi Mumbai News

NAVI MUMBAI: Three constables attached to the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of Raigad district sustained severe injuries while disposing of gelatin sticks and detonators at around 6.45 pm on Tuesday. The explosives, weighing 2.5 kg, were seized by Mangaon police in 2013.
The incident occurred while the BDDS team of four constables and one police inspector was destroying the explosives behind a quarry site in Mahad MIDC area.
Constables Ashirwad Ladage (45) and Ramesh Kuthe (36), who sustained severe injuries in the incident, have been admitted to MGM Hospital in Kamothe. Constable Rahul Patil, who sustained minor injuries, is being treated at Alibaug civil hospital.
Raigad Superintendent of Police Ashok Dudhe, who has ordered an inquiry into the incident, said, “Constables Ladage and Kuthe sustained severe injuries as they were not wearing bomb suits. The constables did not wear bomb suits, as the suits are not required for controlled blasting of gelatin sticks and detonators. Besides the intensity of the explosion in such cases is very low. ”
He said though constable Rahul Patil was not engaged in defusing the explosives, he sustained minor injuries, as he was standing close to the two constables defusing them.
