Hugo Boumous joins ATK Mohun Bagan from Mumbai City | Football News
KOLKATA: As a big boost to their attack, ATK Mohun Bagan announced on Thursday the signing of Franco-Moroccan midfielder Hugo Boumous ahead of the upcoming Indian Super League season.
The 25-year-old, who made a significant contribution to Mumbai City FC’s title win last season with three goals and seven assists, will be in midfield alongside Liston Colaco and Joni Kauko.
“I’ve heard that the joy of playing in front of millions of fans of the Green Maroon team at Saltlake Stadium is different. I’m always hungry to win the trophy.
“I’ve brought success to the clubs I’ve played in. My goal is to win the AFC Cup and the Indian Super League,” Boumous said in a statement from ATKMB.
The Mariners had previously signed Mumbai goalkeeper Amrinder Singh as the Kolkata giants made some impressive signings in the transfer window, despite speculation about the future of their Fijian star Roy Krishna.
Known for his skillful footwork and love of goals, Boumous graduated from the Stade Lavallois Youth Academy in France.
He moved to Goa during the January 2017/18 transfer window and made an immediate impression by scoring two goals and providing two assists in just eight games.
After a strong run in the 2018-19 season, Boumous had his best ISL season in 2019-20, scoring 11 goals and assisting 10 more on their run to the first League Shield.
He was named a “Hero of the League” and also won the “Winning Pass of the League” award.
